DCLIBA County Finals - Champion of Champions

Kingsley's Sharon Simmons was in action yesterday (17th March) in the DCLIBA 'Champion of Champions' County Finals at Torbay. In the semi finals Sharon was behind 4:15 but won twelve ends on the trot to beat Sue Bywaters (Torbay) 22:19. In the Final Sharon faced 'Potters Star' Nicole Rogers (Exonia) who beat Yvonne Rainer (Honiton) in her semi-final. In a very good natured match Sharon held her own for a while but Nicole then pulled away to win comfortably.

With finalists in Torbay on both Saturday and Sunday, Kingsley Ladies did us proud!

DCLIBA County Finals

Our ladies travelled to Torbay today, to take part in the DCLIBA County Finals. Plymouth ladies, our opposition, had won the competiton for the past two years but after sixteen or seventeen ends the teams were level at eleven all. Unfortunately as the match progressed Plymouth began to pull ahead, eventually winning the contest 22:13. Just getting to the County Finals is no mean feat so a big shout out to Jenny Rhodes, Jude Ford, Allyson Hayes and Jan Hines! Well Done Ladies! Congratulations to Plymouth for the hat-trick too.

Kingsley v Cornwall Patrons

During their visit to Kingsley, Cornwall Patrons put up a good fight but couldn't quite match Kingsleys men on this occasion. Winning only one of the four rinks, the Cornish were gracious in defeat, losing 55:69. Playing on the day's highest scoring rink were Chris Paddon, Don Harris and George Taylor (Skip and Captain). Following the match the players enjoyed a 'bowlers tea', prepared and served by members of Kingsley's Social Committee. To avoid 'jam/cream first' conflict, hot cross buns were included, instead of scones.

DCIBA Inter-Club League Tables

Kingsley were lying fourth in the DCIBA ICL table prior to todays match against ISCA B (see table), having played only four matches. Unfortunately despite winning two of the four rinks in today's match Kingsley fell short overall, losing 63:72. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to the ISCA player who was unwell and unable to continue on one of our rinks.

A solid team effort and great result against Table topping Honiton last Saturday. Our travelling teams managed to contain Honiton to a combined score of 27:40 whist both our home teams won with a combined score of 52:30 making a final score of 79:70. With points for two rink wins and the overall win, it was a good day at the Office. Top Club trouncing

Kingsley's men took on Exonia in Saturdays County Top Club match. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned with Kingsley losing all five matches. To make matters worse Doug Jenkin suffered a 21:0 defeat in the four wood pairs at the hands of Exonia's Scott Eveleigh. At the same time our ladies battled hard at Exonia but also suffered defeat to a 'star-studded' Exonia ladies rinks team in a National Rinks competition.

Sick as a Parrott

On Saturday Kingsley played Madeira in the Quarter Finals of the Charles Parrott Trophy. Having received a bye in the first round we were hoping to progress to the Semi-Finals. Madeira had already beated Torquay Utd. in the first round so we knew we were in for a tough match. With one rink at home and one away, we were fairing quite well at the half way stage, just three points down overall. Unfortunately Kingsley didn't do so well in the second half, eventually losing 30:48 overall. Congratulations go to Madeira, we wish them well in the Semi-Finals.

Home - Phil Cousins, Doug Jenkin, Geoff Knight, Martin O'Reilly - 19:21

Away - Conrad Ford, Colin Atkins, Charlie Simmons, Martin Squire - 11:27
