Kingsley v Cornwall Patrons

During their visit to Kingsley, Cornwall Patrons put up a good fight but couldn't quite match Kingsleys men on this occasion. Winning only one of the four rinks, the Cornish were gracious in defeat, losing 55:69. Playing on the day's highest scoring rink were Chris Paddon, Don Harris and George Taylor (Skip and Captain). Following the match the players enjoyed a 'bowlers tea', prepared and served by members of Kingsley's Social Committee. To avoid 'jam/cream first' conflict, hot cross buns were included, instead of scones.

Kingsley v Torbay 'A'

Torbay 'A' demonstrated why they are top of their division in the DCIBA Over 60's league today. Despite two very, very close matches at Kingsley, our travelling teams took a real battering in Paignton. However it was not all bad news with Alan Austin, Richard Dewberry, Geoff Knight and Steve Johnson managing a 20:19 win on their rink at home. Even our away teams cheered up after a tasty meal at an excellent price at Torbay Bowling Club following the match (See picture). The final overall score was Kingsley 52:100 Paignton.

Kingsley Shield

In the penultimate match of the league stages of the Kingsley Shield, Bideford Victoria Park Bowling Club took on Barnstaple (Ashleigh Road) Bowling Club at Kingsley. Taking three of the four rinks, Victoria Park came out on top, winning 84:55. A closer match may have taken place had Ashleigh Road not been without one or two of their stronger players due to illness.

Victoria Park will now take part in the Final of the Kingsley Shield, playing either Bideford (Strand) Bowling Club or Byeways Bowling Club from Fremington, who meet on the 25th February. Photo - Members of Victoria Park and Ashleigh Road studying the head

Top Club trouncing

Kingsley's men took on Exonia in Saturdays County Top Club match. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned with Kingsley losing all five matches. To make matters worse Doug Jenkin suffered a 21:0 defeat in the four wood pairs at the hands of Exonia's Scott Eveleigh. At the same time our ladies battled hard at Exonia but also suffered defeat to a 'star-studded' Exonia ladies rinks team in a National Rinks competition.

Sick as a Parrott

On Saturday Kingsley played Madeira in the Quarter Finals of the Charles Parrott Trophy. Having received a bye in the first round we were hoping to progress to the Semi-Finals. Madeira had already beated Torquay Utd. in the first round so we knew we were in for a tough match. With one rink at home and one away, we were fairing quite well at the half way stage, just three points down overall. Unfortunately Kingsley didn't do so well in the second half, eventually losing 30:48 overall. Congratulations go to Madeira, we wish them well in the Semi-Finals.

Home - Phil Cousins, Doug Jenkin, Geoff Knight, Martin O'Reilly - 19:21

Kingsley IBC Racecourse

25th November saw the first night of racing at Kingsley Indoor Bowls Club

Around 50 people had booked their seats for the first Race Night to be held at Kingsley Indoor Bowls Club.

Punters were treated to six main races followed by a loser's race with eight entrants drawn from all of the losing betting slips.

Five video screens were set up and shouts were heard encouraging the punters horses with cheers and groans as the races progressed. Some saw their horses fall at the first hurdle which almost led to tears, along with some jeers - people can be so sympathetic, can't they.

Altogether a fine and fun evening which, if all the positive comments received show, was enjoyed by everyone present.
