Kingsley Bowling Club News

This Sunday saw two matches played in the Kingsley Shield at Kingsley Indoor Bowls Club.

In a close match between a pair of Parks, Barnstaple's Rock Park and Bideford Victoria Park were neck and neck right up to the final end. With the final score of 63:67 it was Victoria Park who eventually clinched victory.

In the second match of the day it was Barnstaple (Ashleigh Road) who beat Combe Martin 66:59 in another close contest.

25th November saw the first night of racing at Kingsley Indoor Bowls Club

Around 50 people had booked their seats for the first Race Night to be held at Kingsley Indoor Bowls Club.

Punters were treated to six main races followed by a loser's race with eight entrants drawn from all of the losing betting slips.

Five video screens were set up and shouts were heard encouraging the punters horses with cheers and groans as the races progressed. Some saw their horses fall at the first hurdle which almost led to tears, along with some jeers - people can be so sympathetic, can't they.

Altogether a fine and fun evening which, if all the positive comments received show, was enjoyed by everyone present.

Kingsley Indoor Bowling Club enjoyed a great win in the 'Denny Plate' on Saturday, beating Yeovil 79:78 after an extra end was needed to decide a tied match. With a rinks win and loss both at home and away, the Clubs were closely matched and it was down to Conrad Ford, Richard Dewberry, Martin O'Reilly and George Taylor to break the deadlock in Yeovil which they did on the 22nd end, winning the deciding point despite going down to their opponents 16:19.

Kingsley will now go on to meet Bristol in the Section Semi Finals.

A fun afternoon took place at Kingsley Indoor Bowling Club today where visitors Rock Park gave Kingsley a scare in a friendly Triples match, winning two of the four rinks. Although Rock Park started slowly, they soon became used to the indoor green and managed to claw their way back to within nine points of the home team. Strongest of the Kingsley Triples were Alan Austin, Richard Penton & Marie Botting (Captain for the day), winning 19:9. The overall final score was Kingsley 71:62 Rock Park.

Come to BINGO on Saturday 14th October. Doors open and ticket sales from 6.30pm. EYES DOWN 7.30pm. The Bar will be open and there will be free tea, coffee and biscuits at half time. Please note, this event is open to Club members and their guests only.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our coffee morning on Friday 29^th September. £369 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support, with over £100 from cake sales alone. The arts and crafts stalls were also a great success (see pictures).

It was good to have the support of so many members, and we welcomed some local residents who received our flyers.

Bideford Victoria Park Bowling Club held their end of season supper that evening and raised £56 which they kindly passed to us for inclusion, bringing the total to £425. We have left the donation boxes in the Club for a week for anyone wishing to add a contribution.

Our next coffee morning will be held on Friday 24^th November and we look forward to seeing you then.

Jude Ford and Richard Dewberry with their Two Wood pairs winners trophies at todays Kingsley Summer Finals. Other winners were Martin Squire and Chris Vooght (Four Wood pairs) and Mike Bevan, Norman Wheaton and Sue Atkins (Triples).

Runners up in the three events were Cathy Dewberry & Norman Wheaton (Two Wood pairs), Phil Cousins & Colin Atkins (Four Wood pairs) and Graham Stroudley, Bob Gubb and Cathy Dewberry (Triples).

Laura and Jason were just two of the twenty five visitors to our Open Day. They are pictured here registering with our Club members Richard and Gill. Despite the sunny weather outside, the event went off well with a large number of our regular Members on hand to help the day go smoothly. Special thanks to our Coaches who were there to guide new bowlers.

Congratulations to Pam and Graham Stroudley who celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 5^th August 2023.

Graham is currently the President of Kingsley Indoor Bowling Club and both he and Pam are accomplished bowlers, having won many competitions and trophies between them.
